Africa Day Celebrations 25 May 2014

Africa Day Celebrations Sunday 25 May 2014
This year's Africa Day celebrations took place on Sunday 25 May at Cripps Recreation Centre, Northampton .
It was a well attended event with a special tribute to Nelson Mandela. It was an evening of great performances and good food. The event was attended by the head of Northamptonshire County Council Joan Kirkbride, the mayor and mayoress of Wellingborough Graham and Lori Lawman, the mayor and mayoress of Daventry Mr & Mrs Wesley, Cllr Roger and Jenny Conroy, Cllr Tony Ansell. Miss MK International also attended the event.
Our keynote speaker was the legendary Betty Makoni, speeches were also given by author and speaker Fikelepi Jackson and Vanessa Hastings. Stephanie Wilson gave a fantastic vocal performance and we had a great poem from Dumi Senda.
The guests were welcomed by Play Marimba. The setting was done in African style. There was also an African fashion show as well as African dancers. A great drama monologue on Nelson Mandela was given by our host Charles Chavi and our co-host Collinne was also brilliant.
A few photos of the evening are available to view on the gallery page.
Liz Chavi did a fantastic job of decorating the hall, it looked fantastic.
We received raffle prizes from Dangs Restaurant, Park Café and Saffron Restaurant.
Thank you to all our guests, speakers, performers, volunteers and everyone who supported us. We look forward to celebrating Africa Day with us next year.
